For most window cleaners that live in areas where it get’s really cold in the winter, it’s not exactly a picnic to perform window washing services. Some of the issues involve having to prevent water from freezing on the glass. But not only the water freezing but also our hands from freezing.

For many householders, they believe that it’s a waste of money to have their windows cleaned during the winter time because of the extreme weather.

Let me assure you that both these concepts are reconcilable.

Water Freezing
For instance, for window cleaners to be able to cope with the freezing water issue, what we do is work out of two buckets. One we’ll call our inside bucket the other our outside bucket. For our inside bucket, we use our normal solution of soap and water with it’s own scrubber mop. The other bucket our outside bucket we use a pure solution of windshield wiper fluid with it’s own scrubber mop. We are careful not to add any soap to this outside bucket solution. The reason for this is what will happen is while the windshield wiper fluid won’t easily freeze the soap in it will making window cleaning very frustrating. However, by employing this technique we are able to perform window cleaning services even at temperatures below zero!

Hands Freezing
Now as for the freezing hands issue. Many window cleaners have invested in what are referred to as window cleaning gloves. Basically, they are scuba diving gloves and allow one to keep his hands dry. I find that these type of gloves work to a degree but it is very hard to get ones to fit properly. They seem to be sized smaller than normal and fit too snugly reducing the effectiveness. So, while we do use them we have found have multiple pairs of rubber gloves with wool inserts works better. By always having a pair kept warm, when your hands start to feel the pain you can simply switch to the warm gloves and go on.

Windows Washed in Winter Waste of Money?
Finally, the misconception that it’s a waste of money to have your windows washed in the winter. It’s interesting that the same people that proclaim it’s a waste of money to have their windows cleaned in the winter are likely the same ones that understand the benefit of washing their cars in winter. While it’s true they will get dirty again, what they are hoping to accomplish is minimize the damage to their vehicles caused by all the harsh chemical treatments being deployed on the highways to melt the snow and ice. That same line of reasoning comes into play with regard to your glass. Those very same chemicals end up splashing on your windows and begin to damage them as well. However, by having your windows washed on a regular basis you offset this damage and ensure a longer life for your windows while maintaining a professional image at your home or business.
